Grief takes time. Growth takes times. In my work, I am attempting to mimic the concept of a prolonged recovery period and the inevitable need for contemplation. I am also interested in the ways we process difficult situations in terms of mental, physical, and spiritual capacities and the role each plays in our individual development.
In my most recent work I am primarily using natural materials. It is important to me that I allow the material room to maintain some of its innate characteristics and qualities while still experimenting with the idea of growth vs decay. Organic forms are already so compelling and unique that it seems counter intuitive to try and alter their given structures. There is a natural harmony that exists between these forms and the cellular imagery that much of my work depicts. Our inner workings and the natural world have many similarities, patterns, and mysteries that I am continually attempting to work through.
